Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine buttermilk, oil, eggs, and hot water; mix together until combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix briefly until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool.
- To make the ganache, heat heavy cream in a saucepan until simmering. Pour it over chopped dark chocolate, and let sit for 5 minutes before stirring until smooth.
- Let the ganache set at room temperature for 2-3 hours until thickened.
- Once cooled, layer the cakes with ganache in between and frost the top and sides with the remaining ganache. Decorate as desired, and enjoy!
